Zimbabwe Teen Killed by Crocodile in River Attack

Must read

A tragic incident unfolded as a 13-year-old girl, Nomatter Raymond, lost her life in Zimbabwe after being attacked by a crocodile while bathing in the Hunyani River. The terrifying attack occurred suddenly, with the gigantic reptile snatching her away within minutes of her entering the water.

Her friends, Lynette Mazowe, 14, and Angela Chiedza, 12, who were fishing nearby, witnessed the horrifying event and called for help. Despite villagers rushing to the scene, the crocodile had already disappeared with Nomatter’s body. Her remains were later found approximately 70 meters upstream after a two-day search.

The medical examiner highlighted the severe injuries sustained by Nomatter, including deep bite marks on her waist and back from the crocodile’s teeth, along with a broken thumb and wrist from the struggle. The tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers near water bodies.

Further investigations revealed that Nomatter had gone to wash dishes in the river with her younger sister before being attacked while bathing. Authorities issued a warning to avoid crocodile-infested waters, especially for young people.

In another region, villagers in Tanzania have requested government intervention after a series of deadly attacks by crocodiles claimed six lives in three months. The government has pledged to address the issue to ensure the safety of the community, with plans to provide alternative water sources to prevent future attacks.

Unlike alligators that wait for prey, crocodiles are known to be opportunistic predators, attacking animals or humans in their path for an easy meal. The rise in crocodile attacks in Zimbabwe has raised concerns, with 49 incidents recorded in two months, resulting in both human and livestock casualties.

As crocodile attacks continue to pose a threat, authorities are working to address the issue and protect communities from further harm.
