Elon Musk made light-hearted remarks about Donald Trump’s newly established Board of Peace during his presence at the Davos summit. This appearance signifies a change of stance for the billionaire, who had previously voiced criticism towards the World Economic Forum event in Switzerland. Musk engaged in a conversation with Laurence Fink, the CEO of BlackRock and interim co-chair of the forum.
During the conversation, Musk humorously suggested that Trump’s Peace Board should be named “piece,” joking about acquiring small portions of Greenland and Venezuela. He quipped, “We’re gonna make this interesting,” while subtly poking fun at the US President’s initiatives.
In a separate development, Trump introduced his Board of Peace to oversee efforts in maintaining a ceasefire in the conflict between Israel and Hamas. Despite Trump’s enthusiasm about global participation, several US allies opted out, expressing doubts about the board’s scope and effectiveness.
Britain hesitated to join the Peace Board due to concerns regarding potential Russian involvement. The UK Foreign Secretary mentioned exploring alternative ways to support the Gaza peace process amidst deliberations about joining the group.
Notwithstanding the lack of universal participation, Trump highlighted that 59 countries endorsed the board, although only 19 countries, including the US, were represented at the event. He commended the attendees from various nations, emphasizing their influence on global matters.
Musk, a former supporter of Trump, has had a public falling out with the president after serving in a government role that faced criticism for underperforming. His presence at Davos follows previous social media posts where he mocked the seriousness of the World Economic Forum.
In a separate dispute, Musk engaged in a verbal spat with Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary over the installation of Starlink systems on Ryanair planes. O’Leary dismissed Musk’s suggestion of purchasing the airline, highlighting the ongoing tensions between the two figures.
