“Sudden sinkhole in Bolton prompts road closure”

Must read

A sinkhole near a primary school in Bolton, Lancashire, has caused a road closure overnight. The incident occurred when the road’s tarmac collapsed after a car drove over it, creating a significant hole.

Local councillor David Meehan reported on social media that engineers are inspecting a drain next to the sinkhole to identify potential additional problems. United Utilities confirmed that investigations are ongoing while the road remains shut.

Responding promptly to the sinkhole report on Mytham Road, United Utilities dispatched a technician within an hour. The company expressed regret for any inconvenience caused to road users during the investigation.

Councillor Meehan praised the swift action taken by Street Care to secure the area and close the road after the sinkhole appeared. The nearby primary school operated as usual, allowing parents to pick up their children without disruption.

Witnesses described the road collapsing suddenly, creating a one-meter-deep hole. Local residents blocked the road and covered the sinkhole until United Utilities arrived to assess the situation. The cause of the sinkhole remains unknown.

Images show the road surface has collapsed, prompting authorities to erect barriers around the hole and close the road for safety. Residents are advised to avoid the area until further notice.

David Meehan emphasized the road closure outside Mytham Primary School due to the sinkhole and urged people to seek alternative routes. Updates on the situation will be shared as new information becomes available.
