A popular cast member of the TV show Coronation Street passed away shortly after joining the series. The character Sarah Platt was introduced in February 1987 as the daughter of Gail Platt and Brian Tilsley.
Sarah’s storyline included significant events such as becoming a young mother and surviving a kidnapping orchestrated by her stepfather, Richard Hillman. Tina O’Brien is well-known for her portrayal of Sarah, although the role was initially played by newborn twins Leah and Lynsay King.
Sadly, Leah, one of the twins, passed away from cot death at just six months old in May 1987. Following Leah’s death, Lynsay continued playing Sarah until 1999, when she left the show. Tina O’Brien took over the role when she was 16 years old.
Lynsay revealed that she faced bullying in school due to her role on Coronation Street. Despite initially feeling relieved to leave the show, she later regretted her decision and expressed a desire to act again. In 2004, Lynsay returned to film a documentary about former child stars of the show.
Tina O’Brien first joined the cast in 1999 and portrayed Sarah Platt until 2007. She returned to the series in 2015 and remains a part of the show’s cast. Tina reflected on her long tenure on Coronation Street, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to continue her role.
Coronation Street airs on ITV1 and ITVX every weekday evening at 8:30 pm. For those interested in timely news updates, selecting Daily Mirror as a ‘Preferred Source’ on Google News can provide convenient access to valued news content.
