Prince Albert authorities reported the discovery of human remains on Thursday while searching for a missing teenager who vanished in June. The search, involving the city’s public works and fire departments, along with the Prince Albert Grand Council Search and Rescue team, led to the finding of the body near the 300 block of 40th Street East, according to a police statement.
An autopsy is planned for Tuesday to confirm the identity of the individual and establish the cause and circumstances of death. The mother of the missing teenager, Peyton Flett, named Danica Moore, was informed by the police that they suspect the body belongs to her daughter. Moore chose not to provide further details.
Authorities disclosed that the Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service, along with the police major crimes and forensic identification units, are jointly conducting an ongoing investigation into the suspicious death. Earlier, a news conference was held with the police, Prince Albert Grand Council, Shoal Lake Cree Nation, and Flett’s parents appealing to the public for any information that could aid in locating her.
Flett was last seen on June 16 or 17 near Marquis Road and Central Avenue close to the Northern Lights Casino. Police are currently stationed at the discovery site, scrutinizing the wooded area near 40th Street. Traffic restrictions are in effect, and the public is advised to avoid the area.
