Provincial authorities reported a fatality in a motorcycle crash in Pickering, Ontario, involving a 22-year-old man. The incident occurred overnight on Saturday along Highway 401, between Brock Road and Westney Road. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the scene before 2:30 a.m.
The victim, a resident of Scarborough, tragically lost his life after colliding with an electronic sign board within a construction zone. According to OPP Sergeant Kerry Schmidt, the motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed, leading to the man being thrown from the bike and sustaining fatal injuries.
Sgt. Schmidt confirmed that the man’s family has been informed of the situation. Following the crash, Highway 401’s westbound lanes near Westney Road were shut down for an extended period as investigations took place. Subsequently, the OPP announced the reopening of the road.
Authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist in the ongoing inquiry.
