The Montreal Roses secured a 2-0 victory over AFC Toronto in the Northern Super League match on Sunday, with Marie-Yasmine Alidou scoring the decisive goal from a penalty kick in the 55th minute. Elyse Bennett contributed with her ninth goal of the season to provide additional cushion for the Roses, who are currently in second place with a record of 9-4-3. The team, under interim head coach Maryse Bard-Martel, displayed a strong performance.
Although Shelina Zadorsky seemed to level the score for Toronto in the 68th minute, her goal was disallowed due to an offside ruling. Roses’ goalkeeper Anna Karpenko put on an impressive display, facing 20 shots, including nine on target, to secure a clean sheet for the team.
In contrast, Toronto’s goalkeeper Sabrina D’Angelo faced seven shots, with five on target. This match marked the Roses’ first game following the dismissal of head coach Robert Rositoiu, who was let go after a disappointing 1-0 loss to semi-pro side Simcoe County in the W Canadian Championship.
