In a matter of days, I will present my second Budget as the appointed Chancellor. The forefront of my focus will be on supporting working families by outlining plans to reduce NHS waiting times, lower national debt burdens, and alleviate the cost of living. These are not only national priorities but also my personal commitments as Chancellor.
One key area of emphasis will be reducing NHS waiting lists. This initiative stems from our pledge to uplift the NHS from the challenges it has faced, reverse the austerity measures imposed by previous governments, and ensure patients do not wait excessively for essential treatments.
Addressing the national debt is another critical agenda item. It is imperative to redirect funds currently allocated to debt interest, which amounts to a substantial portion of government expenditure, towards vital sectors such as education, healthcare, law enforcement, and community development.
Furthermore, combating the rising cost of living is paramount, as it continues to be a significant burden on households. High living expenses disproportionately affect ordinary families, necessitating immediate action. The current economic landscape, as perceived by many, does not adequately support the working class.
In my upcoming Budget announcement, measures will be introduced to alleviate the cost of living. The government has already taken steps to ease financial pressures on households, such as maintaining frozen prescription charges and rail fares, implementing breakfast programs in schools, and curbing ticket scalping to enhance access to cultural events.
These initiatives represent just a fraction of our efforts to assist individuals with daily expenses. Rest assured, my Budget will delve deeper into this endeavor, building upon the foundation of economic stability we have established and sustaining prudent spending practices to avoid past errors.
Efforts to eliminate wasteful spending and combat fraudulent activities are ongoing, ensuring that resources are efficiently utilized for essential purposes, including asylum support, governance reforms, and welfare system integrity.
