Four men have been taken into custody by the police after a man in his 50s was critically injured in a vehicular collision. The incident occurred in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire, on Monday evening. The driver and a passenger reportedly fled the scene at East Common Lane but were later apprehended by law enforcement. Additionally, two other men who were in the back of the van were also detained.
A police representative stated that immediate action was taken, and the injured man was rushed to the hospital for urgent medical care, where he remains in critical condition. Shortly after, a van suspected to be involved in the collision was intercepted by officers from the Roads Policing Unit on Rochdale Road and brought to a halt.
According to the police spokesperson, two individuals attempted to escape from the van, resulting in a brief pursuit on foot that led to their capture. Furthermore, two more men were found in the back of the van and taken into custody.
Detective Inspector Charmian Bakersmith reassured the community that thorough investigations are being conducted to understand the circumstances of the incident. While the inquiry is in its early stages, initial findings indicate that the individuals involved may be acquainted with each other. A police presence is maintained at East Common Lane as inquiries continue.
The authorities have arrested four men, aged 33, 35, 45, and 53, in connection with the case, and they are currently in police custody.
