Mother Accused of Cleaning Murder Scene Denied Bail

Must read

A mother, Suzanne Love from East Belfast, Northern Ireland, who is accused of assisting her son in cleaning up a murder scene, was denied bail today. Love, currently held at Hybebank Wood Women’s Prison, faces charges of perverting the course of justice and aiding offenders. Despite her request for bail to retrieve personal belongings from her previous residence, she has been informed that bail is not granted.

The accusations stem from allegations that Love helped in removing evidence after Kathryn Parton was fatally attacked in her home. Love’s son, Jamie Love, aged 26, is accused of committing the murder at Ms. Parton’s Madrid Street residence on May 9, 2024. Ms. Parton’s body was discovered in her bedroom nearly a week later, with a postmortem revealing she succumbed to hemorrhaging, scalp lacerations, and nasal fractures from a severe assault to the head without the use of weapons.

Authorities believe Ms. Parton remained undiscovered for six days until her father visited due to concerns about her well-being. Another individual, Reece Oliver, 23, from Castleton Gardens in the city, is also charged with aiding an offender. Oliver allegedly transported Suzanne Love to the Madrid Street property to assist her son in packing up on the night of Ms. Parton’s assumed murder.

During a bail hearing at Belfast Crown Court, Love’s defense solicitor, Philip Breen, stated that Love intended to briefly leave the prison to retrieve personal items like photographs and clothing from her former home on Isoline Street. The house is in the process of repossession, and the Housing Executive will clear it out, raising concerns that certain items Love wants to retrieve may not be salvaged by the Executive.

The prosecution opposed the bail application, highlighting previous rejections of similar requests and suggesting that other family members or friends could retrieve the items. They also raised concerns about evidence connecting Love to the crime scene and her potential to reoffend or interfere with civilian witnesses. Consequently, Madam Justice McBride refused the bail application, citing the possibility of relatives or friends collecting the items and the risk of non-compliance with bail conditions.
