Guenther Steiner, former Haas team principal, suggests that Lewis Hamilton’s tenure at Ferrari might be shortened due to his underwhelming debut season. Steiner believes that young talent Oliver Bearman could potentially take over from Hamilton in the upcoming Las Vegas Grand Prix.
Hamilton’s performance at Ferrari has raised concerns following a slow start. Steiner indicates that if Hamilton’s lackluster form persists in the next season, the seven-time world champion’s association with the Italian team may conclude sooner than anticipated.
Bearman, who previously filled in for Carlos Sainz at the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix last season and is now part of Ferrari’s Driving Academy, has impressed with his performances at Haas. Steiner, echoing popular opinion, views Bearman as a strong contender to succeed Hamilton.
During an episode of ‘Gas or Brake’ on The Red Flags podcast, Steiner expressed his support for Bearman potentially replacing Hamilton, praising Bearman’s recent solid performances and highlighting his potential in top teams.
Bearman’s recent success includes scoring points in the last four races and nearing the positions of Isack Hadjar and Nico Hulkenberg in the Drivers’ Championship Standings. Despite Bearman’s rise, Ferrari has faced a challenging season without a victory in 2025 and Hamilton still pursuing his first podium after 21 races.
Sky Sports F1 reporter Ted Kravitz shares Steiner’s belief in Bearman’s inevitable ascension to Ferrari, emphasizing Bearman’s promising future. Meanwhile, Hamilton has hinted at staying with Ferrari for the long term, mentioning his existing contract and indicating a lack of immediate plans to depart.
