A recent study by Uswitch has revealed that the surge in streaming and online activities during the summer is causing congestion in broadband services. Approximately 9.4 million people in the UK are expected to experience slower internet speeds due to increased usage.
According to the research conducted by the company, 32% of individuals have noticed more frequent connectivity issues as temperatures rise. The study also identified specific cities facing the brunt of these slowdowns, with Edinburgh residents being the most impacted at 26%, followed by London and Plymouth at 23%, and then Leeds and Sheffield.
Conversely, Cardiff and Bristol appear to be receiving a more reliable broadband service. Uswitch’s broadband expert, Ernest Doku, recommends taking proactive measures to address speed issues. He advises users to conduct speed tests to ensure they are receiving the promised speeds within their subscription package. Doku emphasizes that broadband providers should guarantee a minimum speed for their services, especially with superfast broadband products.
