The union representing WestJet cabin crew has disclosed information about the newly agreed-upon terms with the Calgary-based airline following a brief strike. The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) announced that the deal encompasses an increment of more than 18% in wages over a three-year period, along with the introduction of a “duty period premium” to compensate for ground duties. Additionally, the agreement includes extended time off, enhanced food and uniform allowances, and various other benefits.
During the long weekend, WestJet flights in most parts of Canada were halted as 4,400 flight attendants prepared for a strike, which commenced early on a Sunday. However, a tentative agreement was reached between the airline and the union in the early hours of Monday, leading to a gradual resumption of WestJet operations back to normal.
The cabin crew members are scheduled to vote on the proposed deal in the upcoming weeks.
