Parks Canada has temporarily closed a section of the Ä’äy Chù Valley in Kluane National Park and Reserve near Haines Junction, Yukon following an incident where a wolf attacked a visitor, resulting in minor injuries. The affected area includes popular hiking trails in the northern part of the park such as Bullion Plateau, Sheep Creek, Shepherd’s Knoll, Ä’äy Chù East, and Ä’äy Chù West.
Reports indicated that a young lone wolf was displaying bold behavior by closely following individuals and interacting with personal belongings. Parks Canada, in a bulletin released on Friday, highlighted these incidents. Currently, resource conservation personnel are evaluating the situation as of Sunday.
Although rare, human-wolf conflicts are being addressed by the federal agency, emphasizing the infrequency of such occurrences. Visitors who spot wildlife within Kluane National Park and Reserve can contact the Kluane National Park and Reserve Visitor Centre at 867-634-5134, situated within the Da Kų Cultural Centre.
