Christian Horner is reportedly being considered as a potential replacement for Andy Cowell as the team principal of Aston Martin. The 56-year-old is rumored to be facing dismissal after the recent Las Vegas Grand Prix. Horner, the former head of Red Bull, has been eager to return to Formula 1 since leaving in July.
Following a challenging Las Vegas GP, RacingNews365 stated that Cowell was on the verge of being removed from his position at Aston Martin. The team is currently struggling in seventh place in the Constructors’ Championship standings, just eight points ahead of Sauber in ninth. Reports suggest that Andreas Seidl, a former McLaren and Sauber figure, is the top candidate to take over.
BBC Sport has reported that Horner is also in contention to succeed Cowell. The renowned former Red Bull team principal has been linked with various teams since his departure, including Ferrari, Haas, and Alpine, but this opportunity with Aston Martin could be his most significant since leaving the sport.
Rumors of Horner joining Aston Martin emerged prior to the Singapore Grand Prix, but Cowell quickly dismissed them, affirming that his team had no interest in bringing in the 52-year-old.
If Horner were to return to the grid with Aston Martin, it would lead to a reunion with his rival Zak Brown, the CEO of McLaren Racing, who recently criticized Horner for changing due to fame and success.
Meanwhile, Red Bull celebrated success in Las Vegas as Max Verstappen won the race, maintaining his hopes for the Drivers’ Championship. However, both McLaren cars were disqualified post-race, allowing Verstappen to close the gap to Norris at the top of the standings as they head to Qatar.
