A petition signed by tens of thousands of Canadians is demanding the expulsion of U.S. Ambassador Pete Hoekstra from Canada. With nearly 60,000 signatures as of Wednesday morning, the petition accuses Hoekstra of making statements that harm the Canada-U.S. diplomatic ties and interfering in Canadian political discussions in a manner inconsistent with diplomatic norms.
The petition also calls for a parliamentary committee to investigate U.S. diplomatic involvement in Canadian affairs, emphasizing that the Liberal government should take action.

The woman from Calgary who initiated the petition will have it presented in Parliament by Green Party Leader Elizabeth May. It is noted that Members of Parliament can present petitions without necessarily supporting the contents.
Furthermore, the petition accuses Hoekstra of normalizing the Trump administration’s threats regarding Canada’s potential annexation.
In a controversial statement in June, Hoekstra suggested that the annexation of Canada by the United States could be a topic of discussion between Prime Minister Mark Carney and President Donald Trump.
