Following a quick online search, Shannon, along with his daughter Sumire, decided to join the Masters of Musical Whistling mailing list for fun.
Initially not taking the contest seriously, Shannon viewed it as a lighthearted activity to share with his daughter during the early months of 2022. Both Shannon and Sumire had a knack for whistling, a skill passed down through generations.
As pandemic restrictions eased, Shannon received an invitation to submit audition tapes for the Masters of Musical Whistling competition. To his surprise, they were accepted, but the realization that the event would take place in Los Angeles added a new level of seriousness.

Taking the stage, Sumire impressed with a rendition of a Japanese cartoon theme, earning a silver medal in the kids’ category. Shannon’s performance of “It’s Not a Moon” secured a gold medal in the level one adults’ category.
