In communities nationwide, pubs, cafes, and restaurants play a vital role.
Supporting the hospitality industry in Britain, we are implementing lasting changes to business rates. Recent reforms announced during the Budget will provide a permanent tax reduction for pubs, restaurants, bars, and shops, marking a shift from the temporary relief of past years. Additionally, property values are being reassessed by independent experts for the first time since the pandemic-induced decline. Concerns about potential bill increases in April have led us to intervene, limiting rises to 5% or 15% for most establishments compared to current levels.
Independent evaluations have shown a notable increase in the value of certain pubs and hotels, raising apprehensions among owners. To address this, the government has allocated substantial financial support to mitigate bill hikes for these establishments.
Without this assistance, pubs faced the prospect of a 45% bill escalation next year. However, due to the implemented measures, this increase has been minimized to just 4%. For affected pubs, most will see their bills capped at either £800, 5%, or 15% in the upcoming year.
In a commitment to support businesses, the government has allocated £4.3 billion in taxpayer funds to prevent sharp bill increases next year.
This initiative coincides with a Budget aimed at easing the cost of living and reducing inflation, exemplified by the government’s decision to reduce energy bills by £150 for families starting April.
Lower household expenses will translate to increased disposable income for families, fostering support for local businesses and enhancing the community’s economic vitality.
