The Canadian Basketball Hall of Fame’s 2026 induction ceremony took place on Thursday evening, honoring notable figures such as former NBA player Jamaal Magloire, ex-Carleton Ravens men’s head coach Dave Smart, and Olympic flag-bearer Miranda Ayim.
Magloire, known for his 12-year NBA career, made history as the first Canadian player for the Toronto Raptors in 2011. He achieved all-star status in 2004 while playing for the New Orleans Hornets. Currently, Magloire holds the position of vice-president for the Scarborough Shooting Stars of the Canadian Elite Basketball League, following his coaching role with the Raptors during their championship-winning 2018-19 season.
Smart led the Carleton Ravens men’s program to immense success, securing 13 U Sports championships during his tenure, establishing a dynasty within the university’s basketball scene.
Ayim, a prominent figure in Canada’s senior women’s national team, shared the honor of carrying the national flag at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 alongside rugby sevens player Nathan Hirayama.
The 2026 Hall of Fame class was announced on July 2, including players Michael Meeks, Anna Stammberger, Dan Meagher, and Teresa Kleindienst, along with coaches Peter (Doc) Ryan, official Janice Deakin, and builder Dr. Andrew Pipe. The 10-member class will be officially inducted at a ceremony in St. Stephen, N.B.
