The family of a man who was found deceased in a school playground has honored him as their “beloved son, brother, father, and friend.” Neil Thompson, known as Chuck, was discovered at Smestow Academy in Wolverhampton on Monday. Authorities are treating his passing as unexplained.
In a heartfelt statement, his family expressed how Neil’s zest for life and humorous anecdotes impacted many people. They described him as a cherished member of the fishing community, which he deeply loved. Seeking closure, the family appealed for anyone with information or sightings to come forward.
West Midlands Police called on the public to provide any details if they had seen Chuck before his demise. Mr. Thompson was spotted on Wheatsheaf Road in Wolverhampton at 1am and later at the school grounds at 7.15am. He was identified by his distinct attire, including a camouflage jacket, grey gilet, jeans, and a beanie hat, carrying a red rucksack and possibly wearing sunglasses.
Superintendent Martin Hurcomb of the police emphasized ongoing investigations into the tragic incident, offering support to Neil’s family. Efforts are underway to reconstruct his movements, urging anyone who encountered him in the early hours to come forward. Neighbourhood officers are also available to address concerns and provide assistance.
Smestow Academy closed temporarily following the incident but is set to resume normal operations soon. The school clarified that the event was unrelated to its activities and reassured students through assemblies.
