The Royal Canadian Mounted Police have reported a fatality in a collision involving two commercial transport trucks on the Trans-Canada Highway in central Newfoundland. The incident occurred near Gullbridge, also known as Gull Pond Bridge, between Badger and South Brook. Authorities were called to the scene shortly after 2:15 a.m. NT on Tuesday, where both vehicles were engulfed in flames upon their arrival.
Tragically, the 47-year-old driver of one of the vehicles traveling east was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the westbound tractor-trailer sustained serious injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment, where they remain under care. The police response led to the closure of a section of the Trans-Canada Highway between Badger and South Brook for several hours on Tuesday.
An investigation into the cause of the collision is currently ongoing.
