A female inmate who shared a prison cell with notorious serial killer Rose West has disclosed the unsettling advice given to her before her release. Rose West, convicted in 1995 alongside her late husband for the brutal murders of ten women and girls, is infamous as one of the UK’s most prolific serial killers.
Having committed heinous crimes, including the abuse and murder of 10 individuals, among them their own children, the couple transformed their residence at 25 Cromwell Street in Gloucester into a notorious “House of Horrors.”
Stephanie, who found herself incarcerated in November 2024 for a two-year sentence due to fraud, recounted her experience in a personal account for The Sun. She expressed surprise at being imprisoned alongside individuals with violent backgrounds.
During her time in various prisons, Stephanie eventually spent her last weeks at HM Prison New Hall’s Rivendell unit, located in Flockton near Wakefield. It was there that she encountered Rose West, now known as Jennifer Jones, who engaged her in conversation and complimented her name.
Stephanie noticed that the atmosphere in the unit was calmer compared to her previous prisons, attributing West’s relocation to threats from another inmate, Joanna Dennehy. She described West’s mundane routines and interests, such as watching David Attenborough documentaries, having a favorite animal from Madagascar (possibly a hedgehog), and engaging in sewing activities in her orderly cell.
Reports indicated that the infamous Cromwell Street property has been redeveloped, but local residents still avoid the site due to lingering fears. Following its demolition in 1996, the land was transformed into a walkway, yet residents claim to sense an eerie energy in the vicinity, with some opting to avoid passing by or walking through the area.
Patsy Dooley, a nearby resident, described the unsettling feeling in the area, attributing it to the dark history associated with the location. Many locals share similar sentiments of discomfort when near the site, choosing alternative routes to avoid the eerie energy they perceive there.
