British Olympic champion Jessica Ennis-Hill has confirmed her participation alongside Kevin Sinfield in Sheffield for his ongoing campaign to raise funds for Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Ennis-Hill, a resident of Sheffield, will run with Sinfield on Thursday as part of the ‘7 in 7 Together’ challenge, marking the fourth leg of this initiative.
Sinfield, who commenced the challenge on Monday, aims to complete an ultra marathon daily for a week. This endeavor marks Sinfield’s sixth consecutive annual fundraising effort for MND charities, having amassed over £10 million to date. The funds raised have supported the establishment of a pioneering socialist center in Leeds, the first of its kind in the UK.
The motivation behind Sinfield’s charitable activities stems from his former colleague and close friend Rob Burrow’s battle with MND. Sinfield’s tireless dedication has garnered global acclaim, with Ennis-Hill’s endorsement adding significant momentum to the cause, heightening awareness about MND.
Ennis-Hill, a decorated athlete with an Olympic gold medal in the heptathlon from 2012 and three-time world champion, transitioned into a successful media career post-retirement. She also serves as a patron for various charitable organizations, including the Sheffield Children’s Hospital and Barrie Wells’ sports foundation.
Sinfield remains resolute in his quest for a cure for MND, emphasizing the importance of continuous advocacy efforts. Recent news of England World Cup winner Lewis Moody’s MND diagnosis serves as a poignant reminder of the ongoing necessity for awareness and fundraising. Moody plans to host a fundraising dinner in April and organize a charity bike ride in 2026.
