Ukrainian authorities reported that Russian forces launched a prolonged assault on Kyiv and other cities, targeting ports, industrial areas, and retail distribution centers with missiles and drones. The attack was met with resistance, with commuters in the capital city witnessing air defense systems engaging waves of drones following an intense overnight bombardment. According to Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, the strike involved ballistic and hypersonic missiles, as well as combat drones, aimed at critical infrastructure such as ports, grain storage facilities, and energy installations.
The Ukrainian military successfully intercepted seven ballistic missiles, demonstrating improved defense capabilities after receiving a shipment of Patriot interceptors from the United States. However, the limited supply of these interceptors has left Ukraine vulnerable to Russia’s ongoing aerial assaults. In response, Russia claimed to have faced its own drone attack, resulting in the temporary closure of a logistics complex operated by online retailer Ozon in Ufa.
Amid the escalating conflict, Ukraine garnered additional support from allies like Britain, which pledged classified technology to assist in the domestic production of Storm Shadow cruise missiles. In a retaliatory warning, Moscow threatened to target British military assets both inside and outside Ukraine in response to Ukrainian strikes using British-supplied weapons.
The situation on the ground remained dire as air-raid sirens blared across Kyiv, with attack drones causing injuries and damage in various neighborhoods. In Kharkiv, one person was killed and two others were wounded during an attack on a shopping center. Furthermore, Ukrainian retailer COMFY and a prominent toy company reported the destruction of their distribution centers, while Roshen, a leading chocolate manufacturer, confirmed the loss of one of its warehouses near Kyiv.
Russian strikes extended to industrial sites, energy facilities, and infrastructure in several regions, including Poltava, Odesa, and Kryvyi Rih, disrupting train services and causing widespread delays. Additionally, six Russian drones breached Moldova’s airspace, prompting condemnation from Moldovan President Maia Sandu, with one drone being found within Moldovan territory.
