Sky Sports Host Opens Up About Cancer Battle

Must read

Sky Sports host Jo Wilson has shared her cancer battle, expressing her initial fear of death upon hearing the diagnosis. The 41-year-old was found to have cervical cancer during a routine test in June 2022. Despite now being cancer-free for two years, Wilson endured a challenging journey after discovering the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes, necessitating six weeks of treatment before receiving a clean bill of health in June 2023.

Wilson, who became part of Sky Sports in 2011, underwent radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and brachytherapy to combat the disease. While successful, the treatment induced early menopause, impacting her career as a presenter.

Her cancer ordeal began just two years after welcoming her daughter Mabel in 2020. In a new Sky Sports News documentary named “Football, Cancer, and Me,” Wilson confessed to keeping her diagnosis private out of concern for burdening others, even as she grappled with thoughts of mortality.

In the documentary, Wilson converses with Sky Sports News colleague Emma Saunders and former manager Tony Mowbray, both cancer survivors. Mowbray disclosed a bowel cancer diagnosis from the previous year, while Saunders underwent surgery due to a brain infection following a thyroid cancer diagnosis, leaving her partner, football manager Will Still, shocked by the extensive scar.

Reflecting on her experience, Wilson emphasized the importance of seeking medical attention if something feels amiss, hoping her story encourages others to prioritize their health.
