The abusive relationship began when Maisie was 17 and pregnant with Smith’s child, leading to escalating physical violence. Smith’s violent acts, involving various weapons like a razor blade and a sword, caused severe injuries to Maisie, leaving her scarred. Despite enduring multiple assaults, Maisie found herself trapped in a cycle of abuse, manipulated by Smith’s false remorse after each attack.
Following a police intervention prompted by Maisie’s mother, Smith was arrested and later pleaded guilty to multiple charges, resulting in a six-year prison sentence. While the sentencing brought some relief, Maisie continues to grapple with the emotional aftermath, emphasizing her struggle with trust and fear of others.
