A 15-year-old girl in Brazil tragically died from an electric shock while using her plugged-in phone at home. Beatriz Costa Diniz was discovered injured by her father in Jutai. She was swiftly taken to a nearby hospital but was later transferred to two other hospitals, including one three hours away, for intensive care.
Reports indicate that Beatriz sustained second and third-degree burns from the shock. Despite receiving medical treatment, including surgery, she passed away on January 19. The local community in Augusto Corrêa mourned her loss, praising her for her kindness and contributions to her family through selling tapioca flatbreads.
The incident prompted an investigation by local authorities, who are treating it as an accidental death. Experts warn that using a phone while charging poses a risk of electric shock, especially if the charger is damaged or faulty. They advise against handling electronic devices with wet hands or in proximity to water to prevent similar tragedies.
The power company, Equatorial Pará, inspected the area following the incident but found no evidence of electrical disruptions. While initial reports point to an electric shock, social media sources suggest the cause might have been related to a charger malfunction.
