Trump’s Ukraine “Peace Plan” Leaked, Favors Russian Interests

Must read

In a remarkable diplomatic blunder, Donald Trump’s Ukraine “peace plan” has emerged as heavily influenced by Russian interests, resembling a series of nested Kremlin-issued Matryoshka dolls. The leaked transcripts reveal that the President of the United States entrusted the handling of a critical geopolitical crisis to Steve Witkoff, a real estate developer with minimal experience in global security beyond a social acquaintance with Trump.

Witkoff, not a diplomat or strategist, found himself advising a top foreign policy aide to Vladimir Putin, a move that would be deemed farcical in a serious administration but has become commonplace under Trump’s leadership. The conversation between Witkoff and Yuri Ushakov exuded sycophancy, with Witkoff suggesting flattering Trump and portraying him as a peacemaker to advance negotiations in Europe’s most significant conflict since World War II.

The White House did not disavow the transcript, with Trump characterizing Witkoff’s actions as standard dealmaking, showcasing a lack of seriousness regarding European security. The transcripts highlighted Russian officials discussing aligning the US plan with Moscow’s desires openly and unabashedly, indicating a dangerous level of collaboration facilitated by the Trump administration.

Witkoff and Jared Kushner had met with Putin confidant Kirill Dmitriev to outline a 28-point “peace plan,” which upon leaking, mirrored Kremlin’s demands, including concessions from Ukraine that favored Russian interests over a genuine compromise.

This accommodation pleased Putin, effectively granting Russia what its military had failed to achieve through force. The implications extend beyond insulting Ukrainians to posing a direct threat to European security, potentially emboldening Moscow to challenge NATO borders further.

Even Trump’s Republican allies recognized the perilous nature of the situation, with Representative Don Bacon criticizing Witkoff for appearing to align with Moscow’s interests. Trump’s approach of coercing surrender under the guise of peacemaking lacks true leadership and instead reflects appeasement masked as assertiveness.

As Europe looks on anxiously, Trump’s cavalier handling of critical negotiations with an autocrat raises grave concerns among allies, marking a dangerous departure from conventional diplomatic norms. Trump’s negligence in empowering unqualified individuals and disregarding seasoned professionals jeopardizes the entire continent’s future, signaling a troubling disregard for global security.

The repercussions of Trump’s reckless approach could extend well beyond Kyiv, impacting cities like Warsaw, Riga, and Vilnius. Entrusting world peace to individuals unqualified for the task poses an immediate and severe threat, illustrating the gravity of the situation that demands urgent attention and informed decision-making.
