The Toronto Blue Jays placed Vladimir Guerrero Jr., a six-time All-Star, on the seven-day injured list on Saturday due to concussion symptoms. In response, outfielder Daz Cameron was called up from Triple-A Buffalo, while right-hander Lazaro Estrada was designated for assignment to make space on the 40-man roster.
Additionally, left-hander Ricky Tiedemann was recalled from Buffalo, and right-hander Chase Lee was sent down to Triple-A. The move came after Guerrero exited Friday’s game against the Yankees, a 3-1 win, following a collision with New York rookie shortstop George Lombard Jr. during a chaotic play at third base in the sixth inning.
During the collision, Lombard attempted to jump over a sliding Guerrero at third base, inadvertently striking Guerrero’s head with his knee and thigh, causing Guerrero’s helmet to come off. Despite the impact, Guerrero managed to score the tying run before being replaced by Charles McAdoo at first base in the seventh inning.
Manager John Schneider mentioned post-game that Guerrero had a mild headache, which persisted into Saturday. Guerrero, who holds a batting average of .263 with seven home runs and 46 RBIs, will now be sidelined as he recovers.
Meanwhile, Tiedemann, who posted a 0-1 record with a 6.43 ERA in seven games (including two starts) across three minor league levels this season, has been called up to bolster the pitching staff.
