Jackson Tuplin, along with his siblings Carter and Macey, initially resisted track and field, preferring other sports like hockey. The shadow of their family’s impressive track record loomed large over them, making the sport unappealing at first. However, their perspective shifted in high school, leading them to become the fourth generation of their family to compete in track and field at the University of Saskatchewan.
The family’s involvement in track and field dates back to 1948 when their great-grandmother, Anne Mang, excelled in various events, including winning the 100-metre provincial championship. This rich history inspired Cyndi Tasche, Anne Mang’s daughter, to pursue track and field as well. Cyndi’s daughters, Mandi, Lindsay, and Hillary, followed suit, joining the U of S Huskies track team and achieving multiple national championship titles.
Mandi, in particular, was motivated by her grandmother’s success and went on to excel in track and field, winning provincial championships. Her dedication to the sport led to significant achievements, including meeting her husband, Emery Tuplin, through track and field. The couple’s shared passion for the sport blossomed into a successful partnership, both on and off the track.
Emery’s contributions to the men’s team further solidified the family’s connection to track and field success. Mandi later took over coaching duties at Swift Current Comprehensive High School, leading her teams to multiple provincial championships. Despite their own accomplishments, Mandi and Emery emphasize the importance of letting their children pursue their own passions.
Jackson and Carter have emerged as standout athletes in track and field, winning provincial gold medals and earning accolades at national competitions. While Macey leans towards softball, she has also showcased her talent in track and field competitions. The siblings attribute their success not to natural talent but to their strong work ethic and determination.
Looking ahead, both Jackson and Carter plan to pursue careers in teaching and aspire to give back to the sport that has shaped their family’s legacy. As Mandi reflects on her family’s enduring connection to track and field, she acknowledges that the time will come for the next generation to carry on the tradition, ensuring that the legacy continues for years to come.
