Residents in Regina have reported multiple sightings of coyotes in local parks, including Les Sherman Park and Kiwanis Waterfall Park, since August. Numerous posts on social media describe encounters where the coyotes approached and followed people and their pets. Some residents expressed concern about the coyotes’ behavior, noting that the animals seemed comfortable around humans and did not react to attempts to scare them away.
Regina City Councillor David Froh shared his own experience of encountering a coyote while on a morning run in Les Sherman Park. He emphasized that while wildlife sightings are common, persistent sightings pose a public safety risk, prompting the need for city staff to take action. The City of Regina confirmed receiving reports of two coyotes in the area and is collaborating with provincial conservation officers to safely remove and relocate the animals without using firearms.
Froh reassured residents that while coyote sightings may be alarming, they are not uncommon in the city. He underscored the importance of prioritizing the safety of both pets and wildlife. Froh encouraged residents to report any sightings of coyotes or other wild animals that could potentially pose a safety threat to the city authorities.
