“Dove Inn & Gluten-Free Café Closes Due to Location Woes”

Must read

An acclaimed B&B and café has shut down in a significant setback for the local community, with the owner attributing the closure to the challenging location leading to low foot traffic.

The Dove Inn, a gluten-free café and B&B located in Alburgh, Norfolk, ceased operations on Friday after operating for two and a half years, catering to what the proprietor, Sonya Resemblance, described as a clientele of “beautiful people.”

This closure is part of a broader trend affecting pubs and hospitality businesses across Britain, with numerous establishments shuttering annually due to escalating expenses and evolving consumer behaviors impacting the industry.

For instance, the beloved White Horse situated on London End in Beaconsfield recently shut down permanently. Pub owners had previously cautioned about the industry’s decline, citing exorbitant cost hikes, a concern that materialized with the closure of 300 pubs in the first quarter of 2025 alone.

Just before its closure, the business had received recognition as one of the top 50 cafés in the UK at the 2025 Small Business Awards. Under Sonya Resemblance’s management since July 2023, the inn provided brunch, lunch, and popular Sunday roasts to locals, in addition to creating job opportunities, offering training programs, and hosting events aimed at enhancing mental well-being.

The establishment also clinched two accolades at Luxlife Magazine’s Food and Drink Awards in Norfolk, being named Emerging Hospitality Business of the Year and B&B and Pub of the Year.

A standout feature of the café was its entirely gluten-free menu, a source of pride for Sonya as it catered to individuals facing challenges dining out.

In announcing the closure, Sonya expressed gratitude for the support and the opportunity to serve the community through cooking, baking, and hospitality.

Sonya highlighted the business’s contribution to job creation, training initiatives, and the provision of essential social spaces that she emphasized as crucial for mental health.

Regrettably, Sonya acknowledged that despite efforts, the business couldn’t thrive at its current location, attributing the closure to this factor.

This decision follows a prior indication from the business about its struggles amid industry-wide pressures facing retail and hospitality.

Despite efforts from loyal customers to save the business, Sonya confirmed the closure on Friday, January 16, receiving an outpouring of supportive messages.

One patron expressed sadness at the news, praising the establishment for providing a delightful meeting place and exceptional food, expressing hope for its potential return in the future.
