John Tory, the previous mayor of Toronto, has been appointed as the new chair of the board of directors for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Tory expressed his enthusiasm for collaborating with the board, leaders, artists, filmmakers, and the wider TIFF community to influence its future direction.
Effective October 1, Tory assumes his role as chair, as stated in a recent news release. This year’s festival is scheduled to take place from September 10 to 20. He succeeds Jeffrey Remedios, who held the position since 2021 and received accolades for his contributions to TIFF’s progress.
In addition to Tory’s appointment, TIFF disclosed the addition of three new members to its board of directors: Deborah Flint, David Furnish, and Daniel Tisch EchevarrÃa. Simultaneously, Asha Daniere, who had served on the board for nine years, is stepping down. TIFF expressed gratitude for Daniere’s dedicated service and contributions to the organization.
