Tory politician Robert Jenrick’s communications strategy for joining Reform UK portrayed him as the “new authority figure” in town, according to recent reports. The plan highlighted him as the most significant defection in Nigel Farage’s party and was exposed after Kemi Badenoch removed Jenrick from her Shadow Cabinet upon learning of his defection intentions.
Previously criticized as “Robert Generic,” the prominent Conservative Member of Parliament swiftly aligned himself with Reform UK. Internal documents from Jenrick’s team, obtained by Badenoch, indicated his imminent defection.
The documents praised Jenrick as the most prominent defector in Reform’s history, the most popular member of the Tory Shadow Cabinet, a potential future leader, and a dynamic figure within the Conservative Party.
Additionally, the plan positioned him as a valuable addition to Reform’s team, emphasizing his role in supporting Nigel Farage. A source close to Jenrick denied his involvement in drafting the document, stating his objective was solely to assist in promoting Farage as the Prime Minister.
Meanwhile, Tracy Brabin, the Labour Mayor of West Yorkshire, criticized Reform UK for becoming a haven for disillusioned Tories. She suggested that Conservative members who feel sidelined or lack leadership prospects are seeking refuge in the party.
Reform UK has also claimed a recent defection from the Labour Party. When asked about potential defectors on a news program, Labour’s Lisa Nandy jokingly dismissed any association with the move. Nandy also raised concerns about the possibility of Farage leading a fascist government if he attains power.
During an interview on Sky News, Nandy refrained from directly labeling Farage but hinted at his divisive tendencies. She emphasized the importance of recognizing and addressing divisive behavior in politics, suggesting that actions speak louder than words.
