“US Secretary of State to Discuss Greenland Acquisition Plan”

Must read

Marco Rubio, the US Secretary of State, is scheduled to hold discussions with Danish representatives regarding President Donald Trump’s interest in acquiring Greenland. Rubio mentioned to the press that the meeting is set for next week.

The White House recently confirmed Trump’s intention to “take over” Greenland before the end of his term. While Trump initially expressed interest in purchasing Greenland from Denmark, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that if Denmark rejects the offer, Trump is prepared to consider military intervention.

Leavitt emphasized that President Trump views acquiring Greenland as a critical national security objective for the United States, essential for deterring adversaries in the Arctic region. The administration is exploring various strategies to achieve this foreign policy goal, including the potential use of the US military.

Trump faced criticism from European leaders, particularly Denmark, who cautioned that a Greenland takeover could jeopardize the NATO alliance. In response, Trump took to Truth Social to defend his stance, suggesting that NATO may not support the US when needed. He also highlighted that NATO invoked its collective defence clause only once, following the 9/11 attacks to aid the US.

In his social media post, Trump criticized Norway for not awarding him the Nobel Prize, and he asserted that without the US, China and Russia would not fear NATO. Despite the tensions, Trump affirmed the US’s commitment to NATO, stating, “We will always be there for NATO, even if they won’t be there for us.”
