Disney’s ’90s cartoon favorite, Darkwing Duck, is making a comeback with a new series approved by Disney+ after 35 years. The reboot introduces a fresh premise where Darkwing Duck finds himself in an alternate world unaware of his superhero legacy until a rebellious teen, Duckie, brings him back into action. The new storyline was crafted in collaboration with the original series creator, Tad Stones, and features familiar characters from the franchise, including Drake Mallard voiced by Mark Hamill.
The announcement of the series revival on Instagram received mixed reactions from fans, particularly concerning the replacement of the original voice actor, Jim Cummings. While some fans expressed loyalty to Cummings, others acknowledged Mark Hamill’s voice talent. The lead roles in the reboot will include Seth Rogen as Launchpad McQuack, Lizzy Caplan as Gosalyn Mallard, and Lilimar Hernandez as Duckie.
Darkwing Duck initially aired in 1991 on the Disney Channel, running for 91 episodes and garnering an Emmy nomination. The crime-fighting duck also made appearances in video games for Nintendo consoles. Point Grey Pictures, led by Seth Rogen, known for producing content for Disney+, will be behind the production of the new Darkwing Duck series, embracing the character’s iconic catchphrase, “Let’s get dangerous.”
