Google has announced that Chrome support will no longer be available for older versions of Apple’s macOS on MacBook devices. While Chrome will still function on MacBooks and iMacs, users will not receive updates or security patches, potentially exposing them to security risks.
The changes will impact Mac users running macOS 12 (Monterey) or earlier. To continue using Chrome securely, affected users will need to upgrade to a newer operating system like macOS Ventura. However, some older Mac models, including iMacs predating 2017 and MacBook Air models purchased before 2018, may not be compatible with Ventura, requiring users to consider purchasing a new device.
The update will take effect starting July of this year. Google confirmed that Chrome version 150 is the last to support macOS 12 (Monterey), with Chrome version 151, set for release on July 28, 2026, requiring macOS 13 Ventura or later. Users must ensure their device is running macOS 13 or newer to continue receiving Chrome updates in the future.
While older versions of Chrome will still function on unsupported operating systems, no further updates will be provided. Google advises users on macOS 12 (Monterey) to transition to a supported macOS version to receive the latest security updates and Chrome features.
